In a groundbreaking medical procedure, a team of doctors at Narayana Health Hospital in Bengaluru successfully utilized robotic-assisted surgery to remove a complex lung tumor from a 50-year-old patient. The surgical team, led by thoracic surgeon Dr. Vijay CL, employed the advanced da Vinci robotic system to perform this intricate operation.

The patient had been experiencing a persistent cough and was initially misdiagnosed with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Further investigations, including a CT scan, revealed a large tumor obstructing the right lung. Attempts to biopsy the tumor through bronchoscopy resulted in continuous bleeding, making traditional biopsy methods unfeasible. 

Given the tumor's location on the right bronchus, conventional treatment would typically involve a pneumonectomy, the removal of the entire lung, which carries significant risks and impacts the patient's quality of life. However, Dr. Vijay and his team opted for a minimally invasive approach using robotic-assisted surgery. This method allowed for precise tumor removal while preserving the lung's critical structures. 

The surgery presented challenges due to severe infections caused by the tumor's obstruction and the development of new blood vessels around it. Despite these complexities, the team successfully removed the tumor, preserved the lung, and the patient was discharged within three days post-surgery. Expressing gratitude, the patient acknowledged the excellent care provided by Dr. Vijay and his team, crediting the robot-assisted surgery for his swift recovery and return to normal life.
