India has marked a significant achievement in medical technology with the successful completion of its first robotic telesurgeries. The SSI Mantra 3 Surgical Robotic System, developed by SS Innovations, enabled two complex cardiac procedures over a 286 km distance. Dr. Sudhir Srivastava remotely operated from Gurugram to perform surgeries at Manipal Hospital in Jaipur, demonstrating the system's precision and low latency.
The first procedure was a telerobotic-assisted Internal Mammary Artery Harvesting, completed in 58 minutes. The second was a beating heart totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass (TECAB), one of the most challenging heart surgeries, performed remotely with high accuracy.
This innovation promises to improve healthcare access in rural and remote areas by connecting patients with expert surgeons, ensuring timely and quality treatment regardless of location.
The SSI Mantra system is the world's only robotic platform approved for telesurgery and tele-proctoring. With regulatory approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), it is set to revolutionize remote healthcare services in India.
