Chennai: The Indian Academy of Neurology Practitioners and the South India Neurological Academic Forum recently bestowed the esteemed Legend of Medicine Award upon three distinguished figures in the medical realm, as reported by The Hindu. Among the recipients were Dr. TV Devarajan, a seasoned physician who has made significant contributions to the medical field. Dr. Devarajan, an alumnus of medicine, earned MD and DSc degrees in general medicine, and in 2007, was granted the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow. Notably, he was honored with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2013 for his outstanding service.

Also recognized was Dr. D. Shantharam, a Senior Consultant Diabetologist and General Practitioner at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. With 38 years of experience, Dr. Shantharam is highly regarded in Tamil Nadu for his expertise in treating various ailments including diabetes, thyroid disorders, and chronic diseases. He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the medical field and holds key positions in prominent medical associations, showcasing his dedication to advancing healthcare.

Additionally, V. Sundaravadivelu, the former director of the Institute of Internal Medicine at Madras Medical College and Hospital, Chennai, was honored for his impactful role in the medical community.

The awards ceremony, held during a continuing medical education program, served as a platform to celebrate the remarkable careers of these medical professionals. The Legend of Medicine Award not only acknowledges their outstanding achievements but also underscores their dedication to improving healthcare and their significant influence within the medical fraternity.
