Bhubaneswar: A 25-year-old woman has successfully recovered from a massive chest tumor at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). Enduring two years of chest pain, shortness of breath, and a persistent cough, the patient underwent a challenging surgery at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), leading to the successful removal of a tumor weighing approximately 4-4.5 kilograms. Marking a milestone, this surgery is noted as one of the largest chest tumor extractions ever performed in that anatomical region. The patient's recovery post-operation has been positive, as stated by KIMS Hospital. Despite consulting with several hospitals for a period of two years, the patient's condition remained undiagnosed and untreated. The combined efforts of KIMS' oncology and cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) departments ultimately unveiled the sizable tumor, which had been exerting significant pressure on her heart and lungs. The team of doctors overseeing the patient's treatment comprised Dr. Chandan Kumar Ray Mohapatra, Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery; Dr. Subrat Sahoo, Professor of General Surgery; Dr. Jogomaya Pattnaik, Associate Professor of Medical Oncology; and consultant cardiac anesthesiologists Dr. Ashok Badmali and Dr. Gyanaranjan Mishra. Founder of KIIT and KISS, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, conveyed his congratulations to the medical team for their successful intervention in this intricate case.
