സന്ധികളിൽ നീർക്കെട്ടും വേദനയും വരുന്ന ഒരു രോഗാവസ്ഥയാണ് ആർത്രൈറ്റിസ്. ആർത്രൈറ്റിസ് അഥവാ സന്ധിവാതം പല കാരണങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ടുവരാമെങ്കിലും ഇതു മുഖ്യലക്ഷണം ആയിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു വിഭാഗം അസുഖങ്ങളെയാണ് റുമാറ്റിക് ഡിസീസസ് അഥവാ വാതരോഗങ്ങൾ എന്നു പറയുന്നത്.
ഇന്നത്തെ നമ്മുടെ സാമൂഹിക- രാഷ്ട്രീയ-പൊതുജനാരോഗ്യ കാഴ്ചപ്പാടുകളുടെ പാളിച്ചകളെ കുറിച്ചാണ് നിപ പോലുള്ള രോഗങ്ങളുടെ ഇടവിട്ടുള്ള സന്ദർശനങ്ങൾ നമ്മെ ഓർമ്മിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടത്.
