Doctors in England have announced a five-day strike starting on 17 December, just days before Christmas. The walkout is being organised by the British Medical Association as part of their ongoing dispute with the government over pay.

Hospitals have warned that the strike will affect both routine and emergency care, although senior doctors are expected to step in to provide essential services. This action marks the 14th strike by junior doctors since March 2023.

The government recently offered measures such as more training positions and support for expenses, but the union rejected the proposal. According to the BMA, even after recent pay increases, junior doctors still face a significant drop in real-terms income compared to 2008.

Government officials criticised the timing of the strike, saying it could cause unnecessary stress for patients and staff during a sensitive time of the year.
