A growing number of healthcare professionals aspiring to work in the Middle East are losing valuable job opportunities simply because they are unaware of the licensing requirements in each country. Industry experts warn that understanding these regulations is essential before starting any application process.

In the UAE, the system is divided across regions, with Dubai requiring a DHA licence, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain operating under DOH, and the northern emirates — Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah — governed by MOHAP. Dubai Healthcare City maintains its own licensing body, DHCC. Similarly, Qatar mandates QCHP certification for all medical roles, while Saudi Arabia relies on the SCFHS licence for doctors, nurses and technicians.

Oman and Kuwait follow their own procedures, with both countries typically requiring candidates to clear a Prometric examination before securing an MOH licence. Recruiters say that overlooking these requirements often leads to delays, rejections or falling prey to fraudulent agents who exploit candidates’ lack of awareness.

According to experts, possessing the correct licence significantly improves hiring prospects and ensures legal eligibility to work in hospitals or clinics. They also emphasise that keeping a clear understanding of these regulations saves considerable time, effort and stress for those preparing to relocate.

With thousands of healthcare workers seeking opportunities across the Gulf each year, staying informed about licensing norms is now considered an essential first step in the migration process.
