In a remarkable medical achievement, 23-year-old IT engineer Rishikesh More underwent a successful seven-hour surgery to reattach his right arm, which was severed just above the elbow in a road accident. The incident occurred on April 12 near Nimon village when a truck collided with his bike as he was returning home to Ahilyanagar. Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind, Rishikesh applied pressure to his wound to control bleeding and promptly contacted friends and bystanders for assistance. He was initially taken to a local hospital for primary treatment and then swiftly transferred to Suvichar Hospital in Nashik, arriving within 90 minutes of the accident.

At Suvichar Hospital, a dedicated medical team led by plastic and microvascular surgeon Dr. Lalit Derle and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ravindranath Gaikwad performed the complex reattachment procedure. The surgery involved fixing the bone, repairing the brachial artery, four veins, and four nerves using advanced microvascular techniques, followed by the reconnection of muscles and skin. The operation required five units of blood transfusion and was followed by intensive care monitoring.

Post-surgery, Rishikesh reported regaining sensation in his right hand and expressed optimism about his recovery, noting that doctors anticipate a full recovery within a month. This successful surgery underscores the critical importance of immediate medical attention and proper preservation of severed limbs, which significantly enhance the chances of successful reattachment.
