Three senior resident doctors from the orthopaedic department at B J Government Medical College (BJMC) and Sassoon General Hospital in Pune have been suspended for allegedly ragging four junior doctors. The suspension followed a complaint filed by the parents of one of the junior doctors, citing verbal abuse by the seniors. An anti-ragging committee, comprising 15 members, was promptly formed to investigate the matter. 

The accused are second-year postgraduate students, while the victims are first-year postgraduate students in the same department. Reports suggest that the seniors used harsh and intimidating language, and in some instances, resorted to physical harassment. One junior doctor was allegedly slapped by a senior, and the harassment had been ongoing for the past two months in the college hostel.

Dr. Eknath Pawar, the dean of BJMC, emphasized that the institution takes such incidents seriously and will not tolerate ragging on campus. He stated that a thorough investigation is underway, including inquiries with the department head and hostel in-charge, to gather documentary evidence related to the complaint. 

The college authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of junior doctors in medical institutions, highlighting the need for strict enforcement of anti-ragging measures.
