A 27-year-old man from Africa underwent pulmonary endarterectomy at a private hospital in the city due to a serious pulmonary condition. As per the hospital press release, he was diagnosed with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, marked by heightened blood pressure in the lung arteries resulting from blood clots in the deep veins of the lower limbs or pelvis. His condition worsened, leading to pulmonary artery pressures exceeding four times the normal levels, causing the right side of the heart to struggle in pumping sufficient blood into the lungs. Under the leadership of Kumud Kumar Dhital, the director of the cardiovascular and thoracic surgery program at Kauvery Hospital in Vadapalani, a multidisciplinary team conducted the pulmonary endarterectomy procedure. The released statement mentioned that the surgery successfully lowered the pressure to within the normal range.
