Dr. Manuel Durairaj, a distinguished clinician, researcher, and educator renowned in the field of Cardiology, served with distinction in the Army Medical Corp, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Graduating as a Gold Medalist from Armed Forces Medical College, he completed his DM Cardiology at CMC Vellore in 1974. As Head of Cardiology at MH (CTC), Lullanagar, he initiated the DM Cardiology program at Poona University. Establishing the Marian Cardiac Centre and Research Foundation in 1988, he became the first Chairman of the Academic Department of Cardiology at Grant Medical Foundation in Pune. Leading by example, he served as President of the Indian College of Cardiology and as Honorary Physician to two Indian Presidents, including President Giani Zail Singh. His contributions revolutionized cardiology, setting new standards and saving numerous lives globally. Dr. Durairaj's compassion extended beyond borders, caring for patients from India and abroad, including the Middle East, United States, and West Africa. Esteemed for his clinical prowess, religious leaders sought his care, reflecting his dedication to healing. Even in his 80s, Dr. Durairaj remained committed to his patients, receiving visits at home on special occasions. Dr. Manoj Durairaj, Director of Marian Cardiac Centre, praised him as an exceptional academician, clinician, and mentor. Survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, Dr. Durairaj's legacy will be commemorated in a church service at St. Patrick's Cathedral Pune, followed by internment at Sepulchre Cemetery, Hadapsar on April 12 at 4:30 pm.
