Chennai: A postgraduate student at Madras Medical College narrowly escaped an attempted murder on Saturday night outside Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai. The Flower Bazaar police have arrested one of the attackers, identified as 20-year-old Rithik Kumar, a college student from Uttar Pradesh, while his cousin Amit Kumar, a graduate from UP, is currently on the run. The incident occurred when 26-year-old Rohan from Vellore was standing near a tea stall outside the hospital, and one of the two assailants fired at him but missed. The public managed to apprehend Rithik, but Amit fled the scene. Preliminary investigations reveal that Amit, suspecting his ex-girlfriend's friendship with Rohan, plotted the attack as revenge for their relationship ending. Amit and Rithik had arrived in Chennai two weeks prior, acquiring a pistol for Rs 5,000, and had been following Rohan for three days before the attempted murder. Rithik's lack of cooperation with the investigation has led to him being remanded in judicial custody, while efforts continue to apprehend Amit and further probe the case.
