India’s active Covid-19 cases have fallen to 6,836 as of June 17, showing a steady decline from the previous count of 7,264. Only one death was reported in the past 24 hours, involving a 44-year-old woman from Maharashtra who had an existing liver condition. Health officials are keeping watch on variants like LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1, which are still causing new infections in some parts of the country.

Among the states, Kerala continues to report the highest number of active cases with 1,659, followed by Gujarat with 1,248, Delhi with 555, and Maharashtra with 512. However, Kerala and Gujarat have also seen the largest drops in their active case numbers. Karnataka recorded 105 new cases, bringing its active total to 696. This shows a mixed trend across the states, with some witnessing steady improvement.

Authorities in states like Nagaland and Manipur have stepped up surveillance after reporting fresh cases. Experts noted that most recent Covid-19 cases are mild, usually limited to symptoms like fever, cough, and sore throat, which don't require hospital care. They advise high-risk individuals such as the elderly or those with health issues to consider booster doses. Meanwhile, the general public is encouraged to continue basic precautions like wearing masks, maintaining hand hygiene, and keeping safe distance in crowded places.
