The Allahabad High Court has ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to strictly prohibit government doctors from engaging in private practice. The court raised concerns that doctors are neglecting their duties in public hospitals and prioritizing private clinics for personal gain, severely affecting public healthcare services.
The court emphasized enforcing a 1983 government order that bans private practice for government doctors, providing them with a non-practicing allowance. However, the order has not been effectively implemented.
The Principal Secretary of the Medical and Health Department has been instructed to submit an affidavit within two weeks confirming the enforcement of this directive. This move aims to improve accountability and ensure quality healthcare in government hospitals.
