Doctors in Rajasthan are raising concerns over delays in postings after the completion of their postgraduate (PG) and Senior Residency (SR) training, urging the state government to take prompt action. According to a letter sent to the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan by Dr. Bharat Pareek, President of the United Doctors’ Front (UDF), doctors who have finished their PG and SR training have been left waiting for formal posting orders from the Directorate or the respective medical colleges. This delay has persisted for several years, leading to significant administrative bottlenecks.
Because these doctors do not receive their formal postings in a timely manner, they are also unable to draw salaries. Dr. Pareek highlighted that this situation has caused financial hardships for many young doctors, especially as they continue to work without pay during the extended waiting period. He noted that the prolonged wait also results in a complicated process to regularize their “Awaiting Posting Orders” (APO) status, further adding to their stress.
The delay in issuing posting orders not only affects salary disbursement but also disrupts the career progression of doctors serving in government positions. In-service doctors completing their SR training face longer waits compared to those who are not in service, potentially impacting their academic and professional advancement.
Dr. Pareek urged the government to ensure that doctors receive posting orders immediately upon completion of their PG and SR training. He also requested that doctors be paid for the period spent awaiting orders from their newly assigned posting location, allowing them to focus fully on their medical duties without having to travel repeatedly to the Directorate for administrative formalities.
