
Two doctors in Malaysia have been fined around Rs 11 crore for their careless actions that led to the death of a woman named Punitha Mohan in 2019. Punitha, a mother of two, died from severe bleeding after giving birth at Shan Clinic and Birth Centre in Klang. The court found that the doctors failed to provide proper care during a critical time, which directly caused her death.
One of the doctors, Dr. Akambaram Ravi, left the clinic to have drinks while Punitha was in a serious condition. She was left in the care of nurses who were not fully qualified to handle such emergencies. The court criticized the doctors for not transferring Punitha to a hospital with better facilities and for not responding quickly to her worsening health.
As compensation, the court ordered the doctors to pay Rs 95 lakh for Punitha's pain and suffering, Rs 1.9 crore each to her two children, and Rs 57 lakh each to her parents. This case highlights the importance of proper medical attention and responsibility, especially during childbirth when unexpected complications can occur.
