New Delhi: The Delhi Police's Crime Branch has launched an investigation into a complaint lodged by a doctor who alleges being swindled of Rs 56 lakh while purportedly planning to establish a hospital. The complainant, a doctor from Nellore, stated that he had intentions to set up a dental hospital in his hometown. A family friend offered assistance in obtaining a government grant for a 100-bed multispecialty hospital. However, the friend informed the doctor that he needed to pay Rs 60 lakh to government officials. Furthermore, the friend's wife asserted having connections with numerous ministers. Upon the doctor expressing inability to pay the entire sum upfront, the couple proposed a payment plan in instalments. An officer stated, "The doctor has transferred Rs 56 lakh to the accused duo. Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, he endured financial setbacks, even resorting to selling a piece of land earmarked for his dental hospital. After years of waiting fruitlessly and realizing no progress was being made, he requested his friend to refund the money. However, his friend declined, prompting the doctor to seek police intervention."
