Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh's private healthcare sector, a young couple welcomed a 2kg preterm baby diagnosed with TGA (Transposition of Great Arteries), showcasing a notable occurrence. Following the administration of life-saving prostaglandin, the baby was transferred to Tender Palm Hospital in Lucknow, under the expert care of Senior Surgeon Dr. Vijay Agarwal. After a challenging 7-hour surgery led by Dr. Vijay Agarwal and his team, the child's chest was left open for 24 hours. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the ICU nursing staff, expert intensivist, and pediatrician, the child was successfully taken off the ventilator after 3 days. "This condition involves the aorta emerging from the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery from the left ventricle, which is opposite to the norm in humans. Handling the child's coronary artery posed additional challenges, being intramural and increasing the surgical complexity, thus elevating the risk of mortality on the operating table." Dr. Vijay Agarwal told. "The success after surgery is attributed to the teamwork and expertise of the ICU team," stated Dr. Vinay Sharma, CEO of Tender Palm Hospital. Dr. Vineet Shukla stated, "As of now, our hospital is the sole facility capable of handling infants below 5 kg and adhering to the new norms. We extend support through the Ayushman scheme and CM fund for these children." Dr. Vijay Agarwal added, "The child is expected to live a normal life without medications after three months, a fortunate outcome considering that 80% of children with TGA don't survive the first month of life."
