Gurugram: After surviving a life-threatening tiger encounter on his way home from school in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, a boy from a remote area received life-saving surgeries at hospitals in Gurugram, ultimately securing a lease on life. Ankit (17), who spent the last four months shuttling between hospitals, is now prepared to move forward with his life following a series of reconstructive surgeries at a private hospital in Gurugram. He was returning home from school with friends when a tiger attacked him from behind. Despite escaping the animal's grasp, Ankit sustained facial disfigurement and skull damage. While his bravery is commended, Ankit attributes his survival to sheer determination. Ankit reflects, "Tigers are a familiar sight in my area, but experiencing an attack is vastly different from merely passing by one. When the tiger pounced from behind, instinct kicked in—I grasped its tongue and continued pulling until I lost consciousness. I regained awareness in the hospital." His friends promptly transported him to a nearby medical facility, where his condition stabilized. The attack inflicted severe injuries to his face, neck, scalp, and right hand, with slim chances of survival. Consequently, he was transferred to a private hospital in Gurugram for further treatment. "When we initially assessed him, we feared his survival prospects were grim. He suffered significant blood loss, with an Hb level as low as three. His scalp and skull bone sustained severe damage, resulting in facial disfigurement and partial amputation of his right-hand thumb. Through numerous surgeries, it's been his determination that has seen him through," remarked Dr. Ashish Dhingra, a plastic and cosmetic surgeon at a private hospital in Gurugram.
