Gurugram: Deshhit Foundation, in partnership with Artemis Hospital Gurugram, hosted a workshop aimed at raising awareness about tuberculosis prevention and causes. The event, held in commemoration of World TB Day under the theme "Towards Victory in TB," featured presentations by healthcare professionals including Dr. Arun Chaudhary Kotaru, Dr. Dheeraj Batheja, Dr. Sheeba Biswal, Dr. Vivek Gupta, and CSR Lead Dr. Sujata Soy, among others. Also in attendance were Jatin Singh, Dr. Keshav, District TB Officer, Dr. Nisha, Dr. Sandeep from the Primary Health Center in Kasan, Dr. Praveen UPHC from Manesar, and community health workers (ASHAs).
District TB Officer Dr. Keshav emphasized that symptoms such as a persistent cough for over two weeks, continuous fever, night sweats, and weight loss could indicate TB disease, and encouraged affected individuals to avail of free facilities. These facilities include complimentary microscopy, X-ray services, and TB medications at health centers. He highlighted the government's financial support of Rs 500 per month for six months to ensure patients receive proper treatment. Dr. Keshav commended Artemis Hospital Gurugram's efforts and pledged his full support to their initiatives.
Dr. Arun Chaudhary Kotaru from Artemis Hospital stressed the significance of World Tuberculosis Day observed on March 24, aiming to raise awareness about TB's detrimental effects and accelerate global efforts to combat the disease. Citing statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), he noted that over 10.6 million people were afflicted with TB in 2021, resulting in 1.6 million fatalities. However, collaborative global endeavors since 2000 have saved 74 million lives, underscoring the importance of unified action in tackling the TB epidemic.
Sanjit Kumar Singh, the manager of Deshhit Foundation, elucidated that Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a slow-growing bacterium primarily affecting the lungs but capable of affecting any part of the body. While only some individuals infected with TB develop TB disease, efforts are underway to raise awareness and safeguard against its spread.
