Two medical professionals from Karnataka have secured impressive positions in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Dr. M.J. Abhishek Gowda from Mandya district achieved the 278th rank, while Dr. N. Vivek Reddy from Kolar district secured the 485th rank. Both doctors received guidance from M.V. Venkatesh, the Deputy Commissioner of Mandya, who is also a medical graduate. Dr. Gowda, who studied in Kannada medium until the 10th grade, worked as a duty doctor for three years while preparing for the UPSC exam. He chose Kannada literature as his optional subject in the mains. Dr. Reddy, inspired by his father, a school teacher, pursued medicine but always aspired to join the civil services. He currently works as a junior assistant at NIMHANS in Bengaluru and narrowly missed selection in his first attempt by just six marks.
Their achievements highlight the potential of individuals from rural backgrounds to excel in competitive examinations. Dr. Gowda's journey from a government school in Maragowdanahalli to the UPSC ranks showcases determination and resilience. Dr. Reddy's story emphasizes the importance of perseverance, as he balanced his professional responsibilities with rigorous exam preparation. Their mentor, Mr. Venkatesh, believes that their success will inspire more youths from similar backgrounds to pursue civil services.
In addition to these doctors, Keerthana H.S., a former child actress from Nandini Layout, Bengaluru, secured the 167th rank in her sixth attempt. Starting her acting career at the age of four, Keerthana appeared in 32 films and 48 television serials. After completing her 10th standard, she shifted her focus entirely to academics. She later worked as a software engineer and a marketing engineer before dedicating herself to UPSC preparations. Keerthana attributes her success to the unwavering support of her parents, H.T. Srinivas and D.R. Chandramma.
