West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose strongly condemned the recent assault on a woman doctor at Uluberia Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Government Medical College and Hospital in Howrah district. He said that attacking doctors is unacceptable in a civilised society and urged people to respect medical professionals who dedicate their lives to saving others.

The incident occurred when a junior doctor was allegedly attacked by a traffic home-guard after she treated his relative. The accused, who is also said to have political links, reportedly twisted her arm, slapped her, and threatened her during the assault. Following the complaint filed by the doctor, police arrested three people, including the main accused.

Governor Bose described doctors as the lifeline of society and said that any form of violence against them should be dealt with strictly. He also called on citizens to understand and appreciate the efforts of doctors, especially those working under stressful conditions in government hospitals.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of medical staff in hospitals across the state and sparked demands for stronger protection laws for healthcare workers.
