A new investigation has revealed that hundreds of AI-generated deepfake videos of real doctors are circulating across major social-media platforms. These videos use the faces and voices of genuine medical professionals but twist their messages to promote unverified health products and misleading medical advice. The research was carried out by Full Fact, a leading fact-checking organisation in the UK.

According to the findings, many of these deepfakes appear on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and X, where they target vulnerable groups. Some videos falsely show doctors recommending supplements and quick-fix remedies for issues such as menopause and chronic health conditions. Several well-known experts, including public-health professionals, have discovered that their identities were used without permission to advertise products they have never endorsed.

The spread of these videos has raised serious concerns because viewers may trust what appears to be a medical professional speaking. Health officials warn that such realistic AI content can easily mislead people into buying ineffective or unsafe products. This could potentially harm public health and damage trust in genuine medical advice.

Social-media platforms have started removing some of the reported videos, but experts say current systems are not strong enough to stop the growing wave of deepfake-driven misinformation. Campaigners are calling for clearer regulations and faster action to prevent misuse of AI tools, especially when it involves impersonating real doctors and spreading harmful health claims.
