Doctors at Royal Care Hospital in Coimbatore successfully removed a massive 7.5 kg tumour from the abdomen of a 33-year-old woman from Nilgiris district. The woman had been suffering from severe abdominal pain and swelling for over six months before she was admitted to the hospital.

According to the hospital, medical tests showed normal cancer markers, but an MRI scan revealed a large mass in her abdomen and pelvic area. A multidisciplinary team including oncologists, gynaecologists, anaesthesiologists and pathologists carried out the complex surgery.

During the operation, a frozen-section test confirmed that the growth was a benign uterine fibroid and not a cancerous tumour. The procedure was completed without any complications.

The woman recovered well and was discharged four days after the surgery. Doctors said the case highlights the importance of early medical evaluation for persistent abdominal symptoms.
