Medical professionals in Kolkata have pledged to intensify their protests until all individuals responsible for the alleged assault on junior doctors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital are held accountable. The incident occurred on January 15, when a group of outsiders reportedly entered the college premises and assaulted some junior doctors. The confrontation was allegedly triggered by a disagreement regarding patient treatment.
The doctors have expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the investigation, emphasizing that only one suspect has been arrested so far, leaving several others at large. Junior doctors across multiple government hospitals have joined the movement, staging sit-ins and marches to demand justice for their colleagues. They have also called for enhanced security measures at medical institutions to prevent such incidents in the future.
Protesters argue that such attacks undermine the safety and dignity of medical professionals, ultimately affecting the healthcare system's efficiency. Senior medical staff and associations have extended their support, warning of potential disruptions in healthcare services if their demands remain unmet. The state government has been urged to address these concerns promptly to restore normalcy and ensure a secure working environment for healthcare workers.
