Doctors working in Kerala’s government medical colleges have warned of launching an indefinite strike if the state government fails to address their long-pending demands. The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) said their repeated appeals over salary revision and pending arrears have been ignored for years.
KGMCTA president Dr. Rosnara Beegam said that despite several cabinet assurances, none of the issues faced by medical college doctors have been resolved. She added that the association’s protests over the past few months were met with no response from authorities.
General secretary Dr. Aravind C. S. stated that salary revisions due in 2016 were implemented only in 2020 and that many doctors are yet to receive their arrears. He warned that government doctors are increasingly leaving for private jobs due to poor pay and neglect.
The association said that unless the government takes immediate action, doctors will be forced to go on an indefinite strike, which could affect healthcare services across the state.
