Doctors in Belagavi achieved a rare medical feat by removing a major artery blockage in a patient whose heart was positioned as a mirror image of the usual anatomy. The condition, known as situs inversus, placed the heart on the right side instead of the left, making the angioplasty unusually challenging.
The patient had arrived with severe chest discomfort, and scans revealed both the artery blockage and the reversed organ layout. The cardiology team carefully planned the procedure and navigated the unusual positioning to perform a successful primary angioplasty. They cleared the blocked artery and placed a stent to restore blood flow.
The patient recovered well after the surgery and was discharged soon after. Doctors said cases like this highlight how modern cardiac care can adapt to rare anatomical variations, and how advanced treatment facilities in tier-two cities are delivering life-saving interventions with high precision.
