Uzbek doctors have successfully removed around 200 grams of metal objects, including nails and screws, from the stomach of a man in Samarkand after he was rushed to hospital with severe abdominal pain.
The 29-year-old patient was admitted to the Samarkand branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care, where scans revealed a large number of sharp metallic items inside his stomach. Doctors decided that immediate surgery was necessary due to the serious risk posed by the objects.
A surgical team carried out the procedure using standard abdominal surgery techniques and managed to extract all the metal pieces in about an hour. Medical officials said the operation was completed without complications.
According to doctors, the man had been under intense stress and had swallowed the metal objects during a period when he was unable to control his actions. After the surgery, his condition stabilised and he is now recovering under medical supervision.
Doctors noted that such rare cases often point to underlying psychological distress, stressing the importance of mental health care along with emergency medical treatment.
