A team of 19 Saudi surgeons has completed a medical training mission in eastern Indonesia, focusing on oral, maxillofacial and thyroid surgical techniques as part of a humanitarian initiative. The programme was carried out under the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), with Saudi medics working side by side with local Indonesian doctors at the Wahidin Sudirohusodo Central General Hospital in Makassar, South Sulawesi. 

During their stay, the Saudi team not only provided instruction on advanced surgical procedures but also performed free operations on 60 patients who otherwise had limited access to such specialized care. Indonesian medical staff had the opportunity to observe and participate in complex cases, enhancing both practical skills and theoretical knowledge. 

Hospital spokesperson Aulia Yamin highlighted the value of the collaboration, noting that many procedures had not been previously available in the region. The exchange included in-depth discussions on diagnosing and planning treatment for intricate surgical cases, reflecting a deep commitment to practical learning and long-term cooperation between the two nations’ health professionals. 

Saudi officials and Indonesian counterparts expressed hope that this partnership will continue in the future, expanding opportunities for local doctors to benefit from international expertise and improving overall healthcare quality in eastern Indonesia.
