The Uttarakhand government plans to hire 300 more doctors to fill vacancies and boost healthcare services, particularly in remote hill regions. The decision, announced by Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat on September 8, 2025, comes amid efforts to strengthen medical staffing across the state. Previously, 220 medical officers had already been appointed to serve in rural health centers, yet a significant number of positions remain unfilled. 

Dr. Rawat also confirmed that 56 doctors who had signed mandatory bonds after completing their MBBS degrees have been dismissed for failing to join duty despite repeated warnings. These bonds required them to serve in underserved districts for five years or face penalties. While 178 absent doctors returned to work after receiving notices, these 56 ignored final warnings and have now been removed from service.

Under the bond agreement, students received an MBBS education at a subsidized cost in return for serving in hilly areas. The government has instructed authorities to initiate recovery of the dues from the dismissed doctors, as per the bond terms. Officials have also instructed the Uttarakhand Medical Services Selection Board to expedite the recruitment process to fill the 300 vacant posts promptly.
