In a significant medical achievement, doctors at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) have successfully implanted a Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibrillator (CRT-D) device in a 54-year-old patient named Saravanakumar from Tiruppur.his marks the first time such a procedure has been conducted in a government hospital in Tamil Nadu.
Saravanakumar was admitted to CMCH's intensive care unit with a condition called ventricular tachycardia, characterized by an irregular and rapid heartbeat.espite having a dual-chamber pacemaker implanted earlier at a private hospital, he continued to experience irregular heart rhythms.he medical team decided to implant the CRT-D device, which not only regulates the heartbeat but also delivers an electrical shock to stabilize it if abnormal rhythms are detected.
