The Indian government has prohibited medical representatives from meeting doctors directly in central government hospitals. This decision, announced by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), aims to prevent unethical practices and ensure that doctors focus solely on patient care. Instead of in-person visits, pharmaceutical companies are now encouraged to share information about new treatments through digital means such as email. 

This move is part of a broader effort to eliminate any undue influence pharmaceutical companies might have on medical professionals. By restricting direct interactions, the government seeks to ensure that medical decisions are made in the best interest of patients, without commercial persuasion. The DGHS has instructed all central government hospitals to enforce this ban strictly and report on the actions taken to comply with the directive. 

Similar measures have been implemented in various states. For instance, in Tripura, medical representatives are barred from entering government hospitals during peak hours to avoid disruptions in patient care. In Jammu and Kashmir, doctors at the Sher Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences have been directed to prescribe only generic medicines, and the entry of medical representatives has been completely banned. These steps reflect a nationwide initiative to promote ethical medical practices and prioritize patient welfare.
