Teaching doctors in peripheral medical colleges across Telangana are calling on the state government to finally grant a promised special allowance. The Telangana Teaching Government Doctors Association (TTGDA) says that despite a written commitment, only five of the ten remote colleges currently receive this benefit.
They argue that doctors working in distant districts face tougher conditions — including inadequate infrastructure and isolation — yet earn significantly less than their peers in Hyderabad. The TTGDA estimates that extending the allowance to all such colleges would cost the government around ₹200 crore per year.
In addition to the pay demand, the doctors have urged the Health Department to improve transfer policies and promotions.
