In Chennai, the Tamil Nadu Medical Officers Association (TNMOA) has announced it will stage a one-day hunger strike unless the state government addresses several long-standing issues raised by government doctors.
The association’s list of demands includes reinstating a monthly allowance of Rs 3,000 for doctors working in Primary Health Centres, reviewing the Government Order 354 related to pay and promotions for government medical officers, and the creation of 1,500 sanctioned posts that were abolished under a restructuring exercise.
TNMOA also criticised the recent decision by the Health Department to reassign staff in medical colleges, arguing that cutting sanctioned posts and redeploying junior resident posts undermines departmental functions, postgraduate training and patient services.
