The West Bengal Health Recruitment Board (WBHRB) has launched a major recruitment campaign to fill over 8,000 vacant positions in the state’s health department—a full year after widespread protests by junior doctors. The vacant roles include doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, physiotherapists, Ayurvedic Medical Officers, Ayurvedic Drug Inspectors, and Deputy Superintendents. This move directly addresses the demands raised by healthcare workers amid ongoing safety and staffing concerns.
The recruitment breakdown includes 1,848 vacancies for doctors—comprising 1,227 General Duty Medical Officer positions and 621 specialist and assistant professor roles—and 5,018 for nursing staff. Among the assistant professor openings, the highest numbers are in General Medicine (48), Anesthesiology (47), and General Surgery (43).
The online application window for General Duty Medical Officers and Staff Nurses opened on August 13, 2025, and will run until September 3, 2025. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the official WBHRB website for detailed information on eligibility, selection criteria, and application procedures.
