The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Dr. Manish Agrawal, Head of the Neurosurgery Department at SMS Medical College, for allegedly accepting a ₹1 lakh bribe. The arrest took place after the doctor reportedly demanded the amount to clear pending bills worth around ₹12 lakh for a supplier who provided brain coils to the hospital.According to ACB officials, the supplier had been waiting for nearly two years to receive payment for the medical materials supplied. When repeated requests went unanswered, the doctor allegedly asked for a bribe to process the bills. The supplier then approached the ACB, which began a detailed investigation.
A trap was later set up by the ACB’s Special Investigation Unit. Dr. Agrawal was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant. Officials immediately took him into custody and recovered the marked money used in the operation.Dr. Agrawal, who also serves as the Additional Principal of SMS Medical College, has been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The ACB confirmed that further questioning and verification of documents are being carried out to determine the extent of irregularities in the billing process.
The arrest has raised serious questions about corruption in the state’s top government medical institutions. Many staff members expressed shock over the incident, saying it could damage the reputation of one of Rajasthan’s most respected medical colleges.
Senior ACB officials have assured that strict action will be taken if any other officials are found involved in the case. The bureau has also urged vendors and suppliers to report similar cases of corruption without fear.
