Three people lost their lives after the roof of a hospital building collapsed in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district. The incident happened at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) while repair work was going on in the trauma centre. A part of the structure suddenly gave way, trapping workers underneath the debris. Rescue operations were quickly launched, and the injured were taken to another part of the hospital for treatment.
The collapse has raised serious concerns about the safety of government buildings. Reports suggest that several parts of the hospital, including walls and ceilings, were already damaged. Locals and hospital staff have said the building was in poor condition and had visible cracks for a long time. Despite these warnings, proper maintenance was not done, and renovation work started without adequate safety precautions.
Authorities have promised a full investigation into the matter. The Jharkhand government has announced compensation for the families of the deceased and said strict action will be taken if anyone is found responsible. The incident has sparked fresh debates about the quality of infrastructure in public health facilities across the country.
