A 12-year-old boy from Peddapalli who suffered severe lung damage after accidentally ingesting paraquat has successfully undergone a rare bilateral lung transplant in Hyderabad. The child had been on ECMO support for days as his lungs stopped functioning, and doctors decided that a transplant was the only option to save his life.

A suitable donor was identified through the organ donation network, and surgeons resized the donor lungs to fit the young patient before carrying out the complex procedure. The transplant was completed without complications, and the boy began showing steady improvement soon after the surgery.

Doctors said paraquat poisoning usually leads to irreversible lung failure, and survival chances are extremely low. The successful transplant marks a major medical milestone and highlights the growing capabilities of advanced transplant care in Hyderabad.
