Hyderabad doctors have urged the Telangana government to strengthen emergency medical preparedness by installing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in public places and introducing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training in schools. Medical experts say the first few minutes after a cardiac arrest are crucial, but many lives are lost due to the lack of immediate medical assistance before patients reach hospitals.
Emergency cardiac resuscitation specialist Dr. B. Vijaya Rao stressed the need to place AEDs at high-footfall locations such as metro stations, railway stations and major bus terminals. He explained that AEDs, when used within five to six minutes of a cardiac arrest along with timely CPR, can significantly increase survival rates.
Doctors also highlighted the importance of spreading lifesaving skills from a young age. Senior paediatrician Dr. Sivaranjani Santosh called for CPR and basic first-aid training to be included in the school curriculum from Class 7 onwards, noting that most people lack basic emergency response knowledge.
Medical professionals believe that wider access to lifesaving equipment and early training can create a more prepared society. They say making public spaces and schools emergency-ready could help reduce preventable deaths during cardiac emergencies.
