India is rolling out an artificial intelligence-based digital assistant for doctors to improve patient care across the country. Developed by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) will be deployed in nearly 70,000 public and private hospitals under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

This system works as a digital assistant that studies a patient’s medical details and suggests evidence-based treatment options. It helps doctors with drug recommendations, correct dosages, and warnings about possible harmful drug interactions. Officials have clarified that the tool is designed to support doctors in decision-making and will not replace their clinical judgment.

The National Health Authority has directed all states and Union Territories to integrate the system into hospital software platforms. Technical support will be provided where required. Hospitals using older or non-compatible systems have been asked to upgrade their digital infrastructure to enable the use of CDSS.

The AI tool is expected to play an important role in improving treatment quality, especially for chronic diseases and in high-patient-load hospitals. It may also help young doctors and healthcare workers in remote or resource-limited areas by offering standard clinical guidance.

Experts believe the rollout of CDSS marks a major step in India’s digital healthcare journey and could help reduce medical errors, improve patient safety, and bring consistency in treatment practices across the country.
