Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand faced devastation after sudden cloudbursts triggered flash floods in Dharali on August 7, 2025, killing at least four people and leaving several missing. The heavy rains destroyed homes and hotels, forcing urgent rescue operations in the disaster-hit region.

Teams from the NDRF, Army, Air Force, ITBP, SDRF, and BRO are working together to clear debris and airlift stranded residents. Helicopters, including Chinook and Mi-17, are delivering heavy machinery to speed up rescue efforts.

Doctors at Uttarkashi district hospital reported severe injuries among survivors, including chest, head, and limb trauma. In some cases, mud, silt, and tiny stones were found inside wounds and even lodged in the lungs, which had to be removed through surgery. All admitted patients are now in stable condition.

Mental health experts treating the rescued people say many are struggling with fear, sadness, and shock but are slowly beginning to recover. Authorities have urged continued caution as the region remains vulnerable to further rainfall and landslides.
