The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has developed AI-driven human replicas capable of mimicking basic biological functions to support disease prevention, diagnosis and biological research. The innovation was showcased at the Madhya Pradesh Regional AI Impact Conference 2026 held on January 15 in Bhopal.
Designed as a digital twin of the human body, the system uses artificial intelligence to replicate simple bodily functions such as breathing and blinking. This allows researchers and healthcare professionals to simulate health conditions and study disease behaviour without physically interacting with human participants, enabling safer and more efficient medical research and preventive healthcare approaches.
The technology has been developed by Drishti CPS, a technology innovation hub at IIT Indore, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS). The initiative focuses on translating advanced cyber-physical systems into real-world healthcare applications.
Speaking to ANI, Vaibhav Jain from Drishti CPS, IIT Indore, said the hub provides technology development support for faculty and students and extends startup assistance across multiple domains. He noted that Drishti CPS has funded around 89 startups so far. Jain added that the centre has recently expanded into healthcare technology through the Charak DT (Digital Twin) Platform, which aims to create digital human models for preventive diagnosis by testing interventions on AI-based replicas that closely resemble real human functions.
