New Delhi has recorded 149 incidents of violence against doctors and medical staff across government and private hospitals between 2021 and 2025, according to official data presented in the Delhi Assembly. The figures highlight growing safety concerns for healthcare professionals working in the capital.

The number of attacks has shown a sharp rise in recent years. While 2021 and 2022 saw 14 cases each, the figure increased to 24 incidents in 2023. The situation worsened further in 2024, which reported the highest number of cases at 49, followed by 48 incidents in 2025 so far.

In response, the Delhi government said several steps have been taken to improve hospital security. These include the deployment of security guards, installation of CCTV cameras, formation of hospital security committees, and the presence of Delhi Police personnel in emergency departments. Helpline numbers and legal provisions warning against violence are also displayed in hospital premises.

Officials noted that hospital authorities filed institutional FIRs in 33 cases of violence. However, the government clarified that there is currently no proposal to set up a separate special cell to handle crimes against healthcare workers, despite repeated demands from medical associations.
