West Bengal has reported fresh Nipah virus cases, prompting health authorities and doctors to urge people to remain calm while strictly following safety measures. The cases were detected among healthcare workers, following which containment and contact-tracing measures were intensified in the affected areas. Health officials have placed several people under observation to prevent further spread.

Doctors have clarified that Nipah is a serious but rare viral infection and should not trigger panic among the public. They stressed that the virus does not spread as easily as respiratory illnesses like Covid-19 and usually requires close contact with infected individuals or contaminated sources. Medical experts said early detection and isolation play a key role in controlling the infection.

According to doctors, initial symptoms of Nipah infection may include fever, headache, breathing difficulty and fatigue, which can later develop into neurological complications in severe cases. There is currently no specific vaccine or antiviral treatment for the virus, and patients are managed through supportive medical care under strict monitoring.

Health authorities have advised people to avoid consuming partially eaten fruits, raw palm sap and unwashed produce, as fruit bats are considered the natural carriers of the virus. Hospitals have been asked to follow strict infection control protocols, while the public has been encouraged to stay alert, maintain hygiene and rely only on verified information from official sources.
