Doctors in Kolkata have successfully saved the life of a 41-year-old man suffering from a rare and severe congenital heart valve disorder, marking a significant medical achievement. The patient, a businessman from Kharagpur, was diagnosed with critical aortic stenosis along with a ventricular septal defect, a condition that disrupts normal blood flow inside the heart. His case was considered extremely high risk due to severe airway complications, including restricted mouth opening, which made conventional anesthesia methods unsafe.

The procedure was carried out at Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria, where doctors adopted an advanced airway management approach to handle the complexity of the case. The anesthesia team performed an awake nasal tracheal intubation, allowing the patient to breathe on his own while the breathing tube was inserted. This technique helped prevent sudden stress on the heart and ensured stable oxygen levels during the initial stages of the surgery.

Once the airway was secured, the cardiac surgery team proceeded with the operation. The damaged heart valve was replaced, and the hole between the heart chambers was successfully closed. Despite the high risks involved, the surgery went smoothly due to careful planning and close coordination between the cardiac surgeons and anesthesiologists.

The patient showed steady recovery after the procedure and did not experience any major complications. He was discharged from the hospital just four days after surgery and continues to recover well under regular medical supervision at home.

Doctors involved in the case highlighted that teamwork, advanced medical techniques, and the patient’s cooperation played a key role in the successful outcome. The patient expressed gratitude to the medical team, stating that clear communication and reassurance helped him remain calm throughout the treatment process.
