Medical professionals and aspirants across India are voicing strong opposition to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS)'s decision to conduct the NEET PG 2025 exam in two shifts on June 15. They argue that this format leads to unfairness due to varying difficulty levels between shifts, which normalization processes cannot adequately address. The Unified Doctors Front (UDF) and the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) have formally requested Health Minister J.P. Nadda to revert to a single-shift examination to ensure fairness and transparency.
Critics highlight that the two-shift format in NEET PG 2024 resulted in significant controversies over score normalization, leading to legal disputes and delays in the counseling process. Dr. Vinod Sharma Bagra of the All India MBBS Doctors Association noted that even minor score differences can drastically affect rankings, impacting thousands of candidates. The Tamil Nadu Resident Doctors Association (TNRDA) also expressed concerns, stating that no statistical method can fully compensate for the inherent disparities between different exam shifts.
In response to these concerns, medical activists like Dr. Vivek Pandey have urged NBEMS to reconsider the two-shift format. They advocate for a single-shift exam to eliminate the need for normalization and to uphold the integrity of the examination process. As the exam date approaches, stakeholders are calling on the Supreme Court to intervene and mandate a single-shift format to ensure a fair and transparent assessment for all candidates.
