A significant surge in flu-like illnesses is being reported across India, with doctors in the national capital region already warning of high fever, persistent cough and relapses among patients this winter. In Delhi-NCR, hospitals and clinics have observed a sharp rise in respiratory infections, including influenza and H3N2 strains, with many sufferers experiencing prolonged recovery periods and repeated bouts of symptoms such as body aches, chest congestion and headaches. Medical experts have also noted that elderly people, children and those with chronic health conditions are especially vulnerable during this seasonal spike.
Health professionals attribute the current surge in part to winter weather conditions that facilitate virus transmission, forcing people into enclosed spaces where infections spread more easily. Doctors are advising strict hygiene practices, early isolation of symptomatic individuals and flu vaccinations for at-risk groups to curb the spread and reduce complications like pneumonia. They also emphasize that persistent or worsening symptoms warrant prompt medical attention.
This increase in flu activity is not confined to the capital alone. Recent health surveys show a broader trend of influenza outbreaks in parts of India, with many households in Delhi-NCR reporting viral fever, cough and respiratory distress at higher rates compared with earlier months of 2025. The H3N2 influenza A virus has been identified as a dominant strain in several outbreaks, leading to more severe and lingering illness than typical seasonal flu.
Beyond northern India, health authorities are monitoring respiratory illnesses nationwide as winter continues. Reports from other cities indicate rising viral infections coinciding with colder temperatures, prompting calls for increased public awareness and preventive measures across the country. With global flu cases also climbing in parts of Asia, medical experts urge vigilance and responsible behaviour to reduce transmission risks.
