In a groundbreaking medical achievement, doctors from Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC) in Delhi successfully performed a live robotic partial nephrectomy that was showcased at the ERUS25 Congress in London. The operation was carried out using India’s homegrown Mantra Surgical Robotic System, developed by SS Innovations.

During the procedure, the patient was at RGCIRC in Delhi, while the surgeon operated the robotic console remotely from Gurugram. The entire surgery was powered by Airtel’s 5G standalone network, which maintained an ultra-low latency of just 32 milliseconds, ensuring seamless real-time precision.

The telesurgery was completed successfully, and the patient was discharged the next day. Medical experts said the event marks a new era in Indian healthcare, demonstrating how robotic and 5G technologies can combine to make remote surgeries possible.

According to the hospital, this innovation could help extend specialist care to smaller hospitals and rural regions that lack advanced surgical expertise. The successful demonstration also highlighted India’s growing capability in developing world-class medical technology.
