In a significant crackdown on illegal pharmaceutical activities, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested two doctors in Amritsar for their alleged involvement in smuggling banned drugs. Dr. Jitender Malhotra, owner of City Corporate Hospital, and Dr. Varinder Singh were apprehended after authorities recovered 2,000 capsules of prohibited substances from the hospital premises. Following their arrest, both doctors were presented in court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody
The investigation led to further scrutiny of Blista Pharma Company, owned by Amit Bhandari. NCB officials conducted raids on the company's facilities, resulting in the registration of cases against seven individuals. The accused include Deepak Bhandari and Amit Bhandari, co-owners of the pharmaceutical firm, two female partners, Dr. Jitender Malhotra, and Ramesh Kumar, owner of Lifecare Hospital located on Fatehgarh Churian Road. Authorities are in the process of presenting Amit Bhandari in court for police remand.
This operation has raised serious concerns about the role of private hospitals and pharmaceutical companies in the distribution of banned and substandard drugs. The NCB's actions underscore the need for stringent oversight and regulation within the medical and pharmaceutical sectors to safeguard public health. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network involved in this illicit trade.
