Doctors in Tamil Nadu have raised concerns over their pay, staffing shortages, and lack of adequate leave, warning of protests if their demands are not met. Medical professionals, including government doctors, have been voicing their dissatisfaction with salary discrepancies compared to central government doctors. They argue that despite their critical role in public healthcare, their pay has not been revised adequately, leaving them at a financial disadvantage. Additionally, the doctors demand the filling of vacant posts in government hospitals to reduce the burden on the existing workforce.
Alongside salary concerns, the doctors are also pressing for better work-life balance. Many have complained about excessive working hours and the lack of mandatory weekly offs, which impacts their efficiency and well-being. They are demanding at least one designated weekly day off, as per standard labor regulations. The staffing shortage in hospitals has only worsened the situation, forcing doctors to work long shifts without adequate rest, leading to stress and burnout among medical professionals.
Doctors' associations have warned of potential protests if the government does not take immediate action to address these issues. They have urged authorities to engage in discussions to find a resolution that ensures fair wages, proper staffing, and reasonable working conditions. If their demands are not met, they may resort to demonstrations and strikes, which could impact healthcare services across the state, starting from March 11th.
